The UK collector market has its own character. While we follow global trends broadly, there are some differences in what sells well here compared to the US or Japanese markets.
No surprise here. Charizard cards are the most actively traded Pokémon cards in the UK market by a considerable margin. Every version, every era, every variant. Base Set Charizard for the vintage crowd. VMAX and ex versions for modern collectors. The demand never seems to drop.
What's specifically strong in the UK right now: Charizard ex Special Art Rare from Obsidian Flames, Charizard VSTAR from Brilliant Stars, and Base Set unlimited holos (graded 7 to 9 range, which is the affordable sweet spot for most buyers).
The alternate art Eeveelution cards from Evolving Skies are the second most popular category. Umbreon VMAX leads, but Espeon, Sylveon, Glaceon, and the others all have strong followings. These cards combine striking artwork with popular Pokémon, which is the recipe for sustained demand.
Pikachu is the mascot and anything with Pikachu on it sells. Full art Pikachu cards, Pikachu promos, Pikachu VMAX, Pikachu specialty cards. UK collectors seem particularly fond of Japanese Pikachu promos that aren't available in English sets.
A few things that seem more popular here than in other markets:
Complete set collecting is more common among UK collectors than in the US, where individual high-value cards dominate the market. UK collectors seem to value the satisfaction of finishing a full set master collection.
Sealed product holds strong appeal in the UK. Elite Trainer Boxes, booster bundles, and special collections in their original packaging trade actively. The "sealed collector" community in the UK is proportionally larger than in many other markets.
Neo era cards (Neo Genesis, Neo Discovery, Neo Revelation, Neo Destiny) have a particularly strong following in the UK. These sets hit during peak Pokémon popularity here and carry heavy nostalgia for collectors who were kids in the early 2000s.
RKT Grading offers fast, affordable card grading right here in the UK. No overseas shipping, no customs fees, no months of waiting.
